Why clear aligners are the ideal dental treatment for teens
Being a teenager is tough enough as it is without adding a braces into the equation.
There is enough angst, self-consciousness and social anxiety already without having your teeth wired together too. That’s where clear aligners come in. They are almost invisible yet do the same job as a wired brace. It’s why we think they are the ideal dental treatment for teens who need their teeth aligned.
We all know how a brace looks and we would all love to be able to avoid wearing one at all costs. Yet they are very effective at treating misaligned teeth and creating a smile we can be proud of. So what is a teenager to do? Put up with a brace for 18 months while their teeth get straightened and benefit for a lifetime or avoid the brace altogether and live with misaligned teeth?
What if there was another way? What if you could have straight teeth without having braces? What if you could set yourself up for a lifetime of great smiles without the anxiety of dealing with a brace? That’s exactly what clear aligners can provide!
Clear aligners for teens
Clear aligners are like a football gum shield. Except these ones are tailor made for your mouth. They are designed to gently encourage your teeth to straighten while being almost invisible. They are of course visible when you’re up close, but from a distance you can hardly see a thing. Much better than wired braces any day!
The treatment is comprised of a series of aligners that are custom designed specifically for you. Each is slightly different and has to be worn in a specific order. Each encourages your teeth to move in the desired direction and each shifts them slightly further. Wear one for a given length of time (usually a fortnight) and then move on to the next aligner. Do this for a set period of time to achieve whatever goal it is we have set.
Clear aligners don’t just straighten teeth, they can help alleviate overbites, and teeth that stick out as well!
Other benefits of clear aligners
As much as we might try to alleviate discomfort, wired braces can be difficult to live with at times. They can also interfere with sports, force you to not eat certain foods and can even get in the way of playing certain instruments. Let alone the effects they can have on your social life.
Clear aligners do away with all of those lifestyle compromises. As long as you wear them when directed and keep your teeth and the aligner clean, they don’t stop you doing anything. You can pretty much eat and drink what you like, play sports, play those instruments and get back into the action.
